Summer of 2005 August 18, 2005 Dear Mr. Smith I was shown your book this summer while on a vacation at Ipperwash.I was so delighted to see your old pictures and it confirmed what I always knew -that Ipperwash was and is a spellbinding and nostalgic location. I went there as a little girl in the 1950's.I would run down the road because I couldn't wait to see the beach.I could either hear the beach laughter or the roaring waves. This view of the beach always transformed me as a child and still does. My father and Uncle built 3 different cottages at Ipperwash. The last one was sold just before my father's death in 2003. I have returned to Ipperwash for the last 3 summers. I was fortunate to rent for two weeks at Kettle Point. Now my 4 children love Ipperwash. When our vacation ended there this summer, my daughter said: " OH I WISH WE DIDN'T HAVE TO GO" That is the ' magic' of Ipperwash. You could be on a Carribean Island and not ever get that longing to return.I am so happy you wrote this book . I am going to order my own copy and will be sending you a money order.I love the cover of the book and the pictures. Sincerely Elaine M. [BECCAREA] HOLGATE

I quite enjoyed reading your book. Ipperwash played a major role in my formative years. My mother spent her childhood summers in the 1920s and 30s at Ipperwash along with her aunts, uncles and cousins, so she knew many of the people in your book. Later on, she and my father bought a cottage ('Abientot') from my Great Uncle Howard (Rowan), so my brothers and I spent virtually every summer at Ipperwash as we were growing up in the 1950s and 60s. The hikes up to Stony Point, the Inland Lakes or Port Franks. Sailing a mile or two out on the lake in a wood catamaran. The drives into Ravenswood, Forest or Thedford. Getting fresh produce from the nearby farms. Ice cream from Seigner's, Blue Jay's or the Casino. Unfortunately, the first time (Summer of 1968, I was 14) that I went to a dance at the Casino was the same night it burned down. Thanks for an excellent book. Randall D. Smith

Since I have not seen Ipperwash since a few days after Labor Dayinf 1962 the images in your book coincide with my vivid, happy memories of the Beach, the two Points, the surrounding farming community, the neighboring towns and their residents. It was a unique world of its own affording a wonderful escape into the familiar, the friendly, and the beautiful from urban life and its anonymity. Thank you, John, for a rewarding work well done.
